FAQ

Who is Alex Yee?

Alex Yee is the current World and Olympic Triathlon champion. He won the gold medal in the Men's Triathlon and the bronze medal in the Mixed Relay Triathlon at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He also won a silver medal in Men’s Triathlon and a gold medal in the Mixed Relay event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His Olympic medal haul of two golds, one silver, and one bronze medal is what makes him the most successful triathlete in Olympic history.

Alex grew up in Lewisham where he attended Stillness Junior School and Alex wants to give the children of Lewisham the opportunity to find their ‘why’ through his charity ‘Lewisham to the World’.

Where is the event taking place?

The event will take place at St Dunstan’s College, Stanstead Road, London, SE6 4TY.

When is the event taking place?

The event will take place on Wednesday 2nd July 2025.

What does the event involve and who is it for?

This event will give Key Stage 2 pupils an opportunity to try the disciplines of the triathlon including swimming, cycling and running. No previous experience or expertise in triathlon is required.

The event is designed to give children a fun, positive experience of being active. The event is inclusive, non-competitive and not timed so we would urge schools to bring children of all abilities.

Schools can select which year group(s) they would like to bring.

What are the distances involved?

Children will swim 75 meters in the pool, cycle 800m on grass and run 300m (all distances are approximate).

For less confident swimmers, a one width swim option is available, remaining in shallow water and scooters are available for children who are unable to ride a bike.

Do we need to bring any equipment?

Bikes, scooters and helmets will be provided so schools do not need to bring any cycling equipment with them. Noodles will also be provided for the swim.

Every child will receive a t-shirt beforehand and a medal and goody bag when they cross the finish line.

It is recommended that children arrive in their sports gear. They will need swimwear, a towel and trainers. We then recommend children bring a change of clothes so they can change out of their damp swimwear following their participation in the event.

What are the timings on the day/ How long does it take?

The event will run from 9.30am – 3.00pm and schools who would like to attend will be allocated a timeslot for their children to take part. Each school will be given an arrival time.

Upon arrival, schools will go through the check-in and briefing process. We anticipate that schools will be onsite for approximately 1½ hours in total (subject to the number of schools and children participating). Once your children have finished the triathlon you will be free to return to school.

How many children can we bring?

Each school is asked to indicate how many KS2 children they would like to and are able to bring should spaces permit.

However please note that if demand exceeds capacity, the number of children per school may have to be limited and spaces will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

We recommend bringing a full class or year group so that children of all abilities can participate.

Is there a cost?

The event is free for schools to take part in so there is no cost. Schools do, however, need to fund their own transport.

Is there parking onsite?

Minibuses and coaches will be able to use the turning circle on arrival as a drop-off point and then transport will have to sit and wait elsewhere whilst your school takes part in the event.

How do we register?

To register for the event, we ask schools to complete the booking form and send by return email to vince@lewishamtotheworld.com.

If you do not have the booking form but would like to register, please email vince@lewishamtotheworld.com and one will be sent across to you.

Once we have closed registration, we will then email to confirm the number of spaces you have been allocated along with further details for the day.

These events are for primary schools, therefore only registrations from schools, completed by school staff, will be accepted.

Will Alex Yee be there on the day?

Yes he will be attending
